Customers a Problem?

Customers a Problem? Complain about them.

Customers and the BBB ripping off the Businesses

Okay, how many of you own your business?  How many of you are involved and a member of the BBB?  Now, how many of you pay your dues to them so customers can complain about you for free?  To make a long story short, you are paying money out of your pocket to let customers complain about you and your company, and how may I ask does this benefit your business?

Yes, many customers like to see that you are a member of this program, simply because if you upset them, they have a place where they can have their way because…..”the customer is always right.”  Well in today’s society that phrase is not entirely true anymore.  So many customers take things way out of proportion, and can be some of the hardest people to please in the world.  So many businesses will have complaints filed against them that could have been bypassed but now is a permanent dent against them.  It rarely lets the businesses get their message across.  I am in the same boat as businesses, so I am not just ranting about something I know nothing about.

Of course there are always two sides of the story as with everything.  There are some contractors out there that are not licensed and scamming people, but those make the licensed contractors look bad and believe me, we don’t like those non-licensed people either.  The thing is, I have known contractors deal with customers that literally had everything done from what they wanted, then turn to the contractor and say ‘Its not what I want, change it’ and they are not willing to pay for the changes, so needless to say the contractor is out money.  This is where the slogan does not come into play, you still have to remember that they are a business trying to make a living just like you are working where you do to make a living.  There are some customers I have known and heard of customers ripping off businesses and contractors five times or more.  These customers do not need to get away with this, that is the whole reason for Business Beware.  Neighbor businesses can warn each other of the hard to please customers in their area, so they don’t get scammed or know who they are up against.  It is not to rant and rave, it is where the business actually has a voice.   Nothing against the BBB but lets face it, the only real thing that it helps you out with is letting the customer see you on a list.

Everyone is a customer, but not everyone is a business owner and believe me it takes a lot to be in the hot seat of a business owner.  Remember that next time you think about complaining :)
